Finding Your Niche

Being a freshman in college shouldn’t feel overwhelming and scary, but rather something new and exciting. Today I will be talking about ways to accomplish that. You’re still figuring everything out, you’re away from home for the first time, and don’t know anyone yet. That’s why I believe that making friends and finding your community on campus is crucial for freshmen.

Attend Campus Org Fairs

One great way to meet new people is by joining clubs, communities, and athletics. They will share similar interests to you, so you are already set up for success to make new friends. The org fairs have hundreds of booths surrounding different clubs and interests so it is guaranteed that you will find something that you will enjoy being a part of.

Find a Local Job

The best thing that has worked for many freshmen is finding a job or internship on campus. It does not have to be something that is time consuming or stressful, simply something that will give a sense of community. Not only could this get you more involved in campus life, it will also provide you with newfound friendships.

Connect with Floor Mates

In the beginning of your freshman year, it is almost guaranteed that everyone will be going door to door, introducing themselves, and being more outgoing than they have in the past. It is important that you make an effort to introduce yourself when possible, and try to connect with other people in your dorm. This is a great way to meet new people who are in a close vicinity to you.
